Samsung Galaxy Round is the newest device which has stepped out in the market with its own kind of flagship. Galaxy Round is featured with such a deep horizontal curve in the display, which perfectly implies its name – Round.
Samsung was working on the curved displays from quite a few years and it had already placed the curved screens in CES, 2013. Since then, Samsung Galaxy Round is the first device to get that screen.
On first look you will be having an awkward feeling to see such deepened curve in display. Samsung has placed all the wonderful and high tech features in this device accompanying the curved display. So, you need to go through them at a glance in the review section.
Samsung Galaxy Round review
Samsung Galaxy Round has many things to review, when I think that it is another smartphone which will be similar to the price range of Galaxy Note 3.
Looks and Design
It seems that Samsung took the comments of the people very seriously (when people were fed up of the same design in all the Galaxy smartphones). That is why Samsung has done such a change in the design. Samsung claims that equipment of the curved display will help in the safety of the expensive Galaxy Round.
So, it is clear that if this experiment of Samsung, goes right, some more curved screen handsets can be seen in the future with a range of features and price variations.
Coming to the design part again, I will like to tell that the handset is very big but still it is 154 grams in weight and just 7.9 mm thick. It packs a big display of 5.7 inches. When seen from front end, you can easily see that there is very less bezel around the display, which is good for the users.
The phone features the 5.7 inches curved/ round display which has horizontal deep curve. The display is having 386 ppi pixel density and has high resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The Super Flexible AMOLED touchscreen technology has been used in the display.
The screen also supports the features like multi-touch finger support.
The phone connects with all the basic features like the other Samsung high-end phones – Samsung Galaxy S4. It has the quad band GSM support (with SIM only). No dual SIM variant of this handset is launched. It also supports the 3G features, WLAN (Wi-Fi, DLNA, Wi-Fi direct and hostspot) and Bluetooth features.
Near Field Communication and GPS are also enabled in the smartphone. After Note 3, it is the second smartphone launched, which is compatible to the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
Processor and Memory
Since, the device has epic features, it has a quad core Krait 400 processor which has each core’s clock at 2.3 GHz frequency. The chipset supporting the processor is by Qualcomm SnapDragon 800 and GPU is Adreno 330. The performance of the device will be lightning fast.
The 3 GB RAM also supports the processing abilities of the smartphone. It comes with 32 GB internal memory and a microSD card slot too which has capacity of up to 64 GB.
This epic device has the 13 MP camera module on the rear with a support of LED flash. The camera is autofocus and has image resolution support of up to 4128 x 3096 pixels. The front camera is 2 MP in size.
Both the cameras can capture HD videos in 1080 pixels and one can also integrate the two cameras to use dual shot feature. There are many awesome features like simultaneous video and image recording, geo-tagging, face/ smile detection, panorama and HDR etc.
The rear camera can be used to capture videos in 2160 pixels@30 frames per second or 1080 pixels@ 60 frames per second. I will soon update the video samples of this device as soon as I get hands on this device.
Galaxy Round is launched in October 2013. Still it contains the Jelly Bean 4.3 version of Android operating system when Google has already launched Android 4.4 Kitkat Android OS.
However, it does not matter much as Samsung will provide the update for the users. And jelly Bean 4.3 is also awesome in its user interface. The phone’s software also has Samsung’s TouchWiz UI with own gadgets and features on the row.
Roll On feature
This is the only feature which Samsung has revealed yet now, which makes the curved horizontal display a significant one. Roll on features wakes up the phone to show you a screen displaying the useful content like Missed calls, pending Messages, battery level, date and time.
For this one has to simply roll the Galaxy Round over its axis as shown in the video below. The device will itself wake up from other screen or from the sleep mode too (when display is off).
To support such a high resolution and camera device, it has been packed up with the 2800 mAh battery, which provides a significant backup to the device.
Samsung Galaxy Round price in India
Samsung Galaxy Round price in India is not disclosed yet. However, it seems that device will be featured with an Indian price tag ranging from Rs.55000 to Rs.65000.
